LEFTOVERS AGAIN? WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER HANDWOVEN FABRIC
Explore and experience creative ways to use every precious bit of hand-woven scrap. Some techniques require sewing, some a hot glue gun. Some ideas become great garments, some can be sent through the mail! Learn how to use some of the fusibles and stabilizers available, and learn to look at everything from old work, to the smallest scrap as an exciting new raw material. In addition participants will have the opportunity to make and take home a stitched post card to mail to their friends. Prospectus
INKLE LOOM WEAVING
No weaving experience necessary! The inkle loom is portable, easy to warp, easy to weave off, and makes beautiful belts and bands. Daryl uses it to trim her garments. Every weaver should own one. They are inexpensive and children as young as third grade can learn to use them. Come learn this simple warp face structure, looms are available. For those who are looking for the next step with this simple two shaft loom, this is the class for you. Come with a pre-warped inkle loom using a pre-assigned draft and learn 1/1 name draft pick-up, standard 7 thread pick-up, and a supplemental warp technique. Prospectus
PLAY WITH COLOR!
Through a series of creative exercises, participants will learn to confidently place yarns of different colors and textures together to make beautiful warp combinations. This is a fun, hands-on class, and participants will be asked to bring a bag of assorted odds and ends of yarns to work with and to share with others. In addition, participants will learn to create palettes using Color-aid® blocks and photographs. Based on the Color/Fabric Forecast Column from Handwoven Magazine, participants will experiment with palettes based on mood using photos for inspiration and see illustrations of how to translate them into handwoven fabrics and ultimately a garment. PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR WORK: A Critique of Participant’s Images
Improve the quality of the images of your work. Using PowerPoint, the basics of photography, both film and digital will be discussed, as well as composition and lighting, and basic digital image manipulation using Photoshop Elements®. Lots of images illustrating what NOT to do! In addition, participants will be asked to send examples of their images in film or digital format ahead of the workshop, for critique.Prospectus
